Chalk Pastels (Top Picture): Last Thursday, we used chalk pastels for the first time. This was the first time I've ever used chalk for drawing. I personally don't like chalk pastels as much as others. I didn't like how messy it was or how messy it looks. I like my work to be clean and look neat. I did not mix colors when drawing with the chalk, so my work came out looking like any elementary schooler could have done it just as well. Even though I do not prefer using chalk, I would like to use them again so that I could mix colors together to create different kinds of shading and see how it would turn out.
Color pencils (Bottom Picture): I really enjoyed using colored pencils. It seems so basic, but i'm pretty familiar with how to use them considering that i've been using them my whole life. However, this was the first time i've ever even thought about mixing colors to create different values and shading. That thought has never crossed my mind before. I like how mine came out even though it still looks pretty bad. I want to continue to use colored pencils so that I can master the technique of using different colors to create shadows and whatnot. Then my art work will actually look detailed and be pretty decent work. My favorite colors that to combine to create a darker color and shadow were Blue and Purple. In my eyes those two colors blend pretty well together and look good together. I tried putting Green over a shade of Red to make it look like it was fading into a lighter color of red, but the two colors don't compliment each other very well so it came out ugly. In the future I will remember these experiences and it'll help make my artwork better.
